November writing challenge day 30

Congratulations, writing friends! We made it to the last day of November. Our November writing challenge is complete!

Yay!

I hope that if you were doing NaNoWriMo you “won” and got to those 50,000 words. If you didn’t, I hope that the challenge was rewarding, and you got a good start on your creativity this month.

I finished my challenge by going back to my heroine’s log line, and adjusted the timeline of a couple of things in her backstory which are relevant in the present. I still haven’t quite nailed her logline, but I think I am much closer:

After the sudden death of her aunt to cancer, and fresh off a five year relationship to her abusive ex, all 25 year old hairdresser Ashlee Zelazny wants to do is rest, pamper herself, and recharge. With the money her aunt left her, Ashlee books herself a first class flight to Vail, Colorado for a week by the pool and a concert ticket to see her favorite pop star.

Romance is the last thing on her mind, even when she is seated next to Micah Herren, a handsome, rich hotel executive. But when the plane she is on is forced to make an emergency landing in Cleveland, despite herself, Ashlee is drawn to Micah, and the bond they forged during the plane emergency grows during their layover.

When her B&B reservation gets cancelled, and Ashlee is stranded in Vail, Micah steps in and offers her the spare bedroom in his hotel suite. Unable to deny the growing attraction between them, she accepts, even though she knows he will be leaving to start a new job in Austria in a week’s time. Will she be able keep Micah at arm’s length, or will she lose her heart?

It’s the last two lines which aren’t right yet. The problem with this character is that she doesn’t have a specific goal in mind, other than “not ready for a relationship.” So I’m finding it hard to pin down.

Anyway. At least I did some decent work tonight, and I finished my last day on a strong note.

I will be back tomorrow for some recap thoughts, and what my plans are for December.

Congratulations again, writing friends! I’m off to celebrate with some leftover Thanksgiving pie.
